Οὐ μόνον δ' ἐπὶ τούτων αὐτοὺς ὄψει τὴν γνώμην ταύτην ἔχοντας, ἀλλ' ἐπὶ πάντων ὁμοίως, ἐπεὶ καὶ τὴν πόλιν ἡμῶν οὐδεὶς ἂν ἐπαινέσειεν, οὔθ' ὅτι τῆς θαλάττης ἦρξεν, οὔθ' ὅτι τοσοῦτον πλῆθος χρημάτων εἰσπράξασα τοὺς συμμάχους εἰς τὴν ἀκρόπολιν ἀνήνεγκεν ἀλλὰ μὴν οὐδ' ὅτι πολλῶν πόλεων ἐξουσίαν ἔλαβε τὰς μὲν ἀναστάτους ποιῆσαι, τὰς δ' αὐξῆσαι, τὰς δ' ὅπως ἐβουλήθη διοικῆσαι·

Vedrai che non solo di questi eroi la gente ha questo giudizio, ma di tutti indistintamente, tant'è vero che nessuno loderebbe la nostra città perché ebbe l'egemonia del mare né perché riscosse dai suoi alleati tanta quantità di denaro e la trasportò sull'Acropoli e neppure perché le fu lecito  distruggere alcune città, ingrandirne altre e governarne altre ancora a suo piacimento.
